Wet FGD plants handle limestone and gypsum slurry. If the solids settle, the tank floor builds up, pumps draw thin or uneven slurry, and the tank loses working volume. The agitator has to keep the solids in suspension reliably, in a slurry that wears and, with chlorides present, can corrode.
Side entry agitators mount on the tank wall below the liquid level, keep the drive at ground level, and leave the space above the liquid clear. We size them for the solids loading and particle size, and choose the wetted materials for the slurry chemistry.
Typical applications
- Limestone slurry tanks
- Slurry storage and handling tanks
- Absorber recirculation tanks, where a side entry mixer suits the specific vessel
Mixing objectives
- Keep the required solids in suspension
- Reduce sediment build-up on the floor
- Even slurry concentration at pump suction and transfer points
FMT configuration for Power / FGD
| Drive | Gear or single-stage belt |
|---|---|
| Mechanical seal | Single or double mechanical seal |
| Motor | FLP or NFLP* |
| Wetted parts | SS 304 / SS 316, duplex option |
| Non-wetted parts | MS |
| Motor ratings | 2.2 to 37 kW |
| Mixer shaft speed | 280 or 450 rpm |
| Impeller | Hydrofoil or propeller |
* A flameproof (FLP) motor is supplied where the site's hazardous-area classification requires it. A non-flameproof motor is offered only where the area allows it.
Every unit is made to order for your tank. See the full side entry mixer range and specifications.
What we look at when sizing
- Solids loading, particle size and density, and settling velocity
- pH and chloride concentration
- Wear allowance and wetted materials (SS 304, SS 316 or duplex)
- Shaft support and seal protection in abrasive service
- Operating duty and what happens on restart after a stop
