Edible oils are stored and blended in large tanks, often heated. Without circulation the oil stratifies by temperature, blends stay uneven, and heavier fractions can settle. Viscosity rises sharply as the oil cools, so a mixer that works at storage temperature may struggle on a cold start.
We size FMT side entry agitators for the oil type and its viscosity at the lowest operating temperature, and lay them out around heating coils and other internals.
Typical applications
- Edible oil storage tanks
- Blending and holding tanks
- Heated tanks needing temperature equalisation
Mixing objectives
- Blending of compatible oils to a uniform composition
- Less temperature stratification in heated tanks
- Uniform composition during holding
FMT configuration for Edible Oil
| Drive | Gear or single-stage belt |
|---|---|
| Mechanical seal | Single mechanical seal |
| Motor | FLP or NFLP* |
| Wetted parts | SS 304 / SS 316 |
| Non-wetted parts | MS |
| Motor ratings | 2.2 to 37 kW |
| Mixer shaft speed | 280 or 450 rpm |
| Impeller | Hydrofoil or propeller |
* A flameproof (FLP) motor is supplied where the site's hazardous-area classification requires it. A non-flameproof motor is offered only where the area allows it.
Every unit is made to order for your tank. See the full side entry mixer range and specifications.
What we look at when sizing
- Oil type, density and viscosity at the lowest operating temperature
- Tank geometry and heating coils
- Seal compatibility with the oil and temperature
- Material finish and cleaning procedure
- Food-contact requirements
