Distillery tanks hold mash, wash and slurry with suspended solids that settle if left alone. Mixing keeps the contents uniform, holds the solids in suspension, and evens out temperature. What a tank needs depends on its process stage: liquefaction, fermentation and beer-well storage each behave differently.
FMT distillery agitators use a gear drive and a single mechanical seal with SS 304 or SS 316 wetted parts. We size them from the process stage, solids loading and viscosity.
Typical applications
- Fermenters and beer wells, where agitation is specified and suitable
- Liquefaction-section tanks
- Wash and slurry tanks
Mixing objectives
- Uniform tank contents
- Solids kept in suspension
- Temperature equalisation where required
FMT configuration for Distillery
| Drive | Gear drive only |
|---|---|
| Mechanical seal | Single mechanical seal |
| Motor | FLP or NFLP* |
| Wetted parts | SS 304 / SS 316 |
| Non-wetted parts | MS |
| Motor ratings | 2.2 to 37 kW |
| Mixer shaft speed | 280 or 450 rpm |
| Impeller | Hydrofoil or propeller |
* A flameproof (FLP) motor is supplied where the site's hazardous-area classification requires it. A non-flameproof motor is offered only where the area allows it.
Every unit is made to order for your tank. See the full side entry mixer range and specifications.
What we look at when sizing
- Process stage and its requirements
- Temperature, solids loading and viscosity
- Cleaning / CIP
- Gas generation during fermentation
- Corrosion and material compatibility
